DALI BASIK SUB – Compact Bass for Small Systems

Bookshelf speakers get you detail, imaging and a room that still looks like a room — what they cannot do is move air below 40 Hz. The DALI BASIK SUB is Danish engineering aimed squarely at that gap: an 8-inch down-firing woofer and 170 W of Class D power in a cube that measures barely 32 cm on a side. It is the piece that turns a neat pair of standmounts into a full-range system, and it comes in five finishes chosen to sit alongside DALI KUPID and SONIK 1 rather than hide behind the sofa. All five are part of the DALI line-up at Soundium.

Key Features

  • 8-inch down-firing long-stroke woofer: Fires into the floor for more even bass distribution and far more forgiving placement
  • Paper pulp diaphragm: DALI's in-house cone material combines low mass with rigidity for detailed, uncoloured low frequencies
  • 170 W RMS Class D amplifier: 220 W peak output with an oversized ferrite magnet and high-flux motor keeping the driver under control
  • Stereo line and mono LFE inputs: One subwoofer that works with a two-channel amplifier or an AV receiver, no adapters needed
  • Variable gain, crossover and phase: 40–120 Hz crossover and 0–180° phase let you blend it into any room and any pair of speakers
  • Dual-stage limiter and vented voice coil: Protects amplifier and driver at high levels while keeping the motor cool and free of air compression noise
  • Five vinyl-wrapped finishes: Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow and Chilly Blue, matched to the KUPID and SONIK 1 colourways

Customer Benefits

Small speakers and small rooms are not the problem — missing bandwidth is. Add the BASIK SUB and the bottom two octaves arrive without the mid-bass bloat that a bigger box in a small room tends to bring: the down-firing driver loads the floor evenly, so you are not hunting for the one corner where it sounds right. Set the crossover to hand over where your standmounts run out, dial the phase for a seamless transition, and the same box handles a stereo record and a film soundtrack. Auto standby drops consumption to 0.4 W after about 20 minutes, so it can stay switched on all week.

What's in the Box

  • DALI BASIK SUB subwoofer
  • Mains power cable
  • Quick start guide

Ideal For

  • Adding low-end weight to a pair of bookshelf or standmount speakers
  • Compact stereo systems built around a streaming amplifier with a subwoofer output
  • Small to medium home cinema setups that need real LFE without a large box

Compatibility

Connects to any stereo amplifier with pre-outs or a subwoofer output, and to any AV receiver via the mono LFE input. A natural match for DALI KUPID and SONIK 1, and for compact speakers from any brand that need bandwidth below 40 Hz.

Pros & Cons

✅ Pros

  • Genuinely compact — 32 cm cube that fits beside a sideboard
  • Down-firing driver makes placement much less critical
  • Full set of physical controls: gain, crossover and phase
  • Five finishes instead of the usual black box

⚠️ Cons

  • An 8-inch driver has limits in large open-plan rooms
  • No wireless transmitter or app-based room correction
  • Cables are not supplied — you will need an RCA interconnect

If your speakers are doing everything right except the bottom end, this is the smallest honest fix DALI makes. Find the DALI BASIK SUB, in all five finishes, at Soundium.
