Elektron Tonverk Ultimate Bundle – Multisampler, Eight Outputs, One Hub

Tonverk is Elektron's 16-track polyphonic multisampler and audio processor: eight stereo audio tracks, bus and send tracks, an auto-sampler and routing deep enough to be the centre of a studio. This bundle gives it the outputs and the hub that centre needs – Outbox 8 for individual track outs to a desk or outboard, and the OH-7 Overhub so Tonverk, Outbox and the rest of the setup share one USB 3.0 host connection.

Tonverk is Elektron's polyphonic multisampler: eight stereo audio tracks with eight voices each, four bus tracks, three sends and a mix track, sequenced up to 256 steps. This set adds the Outbox 8 for eight further assignable jacks, which is where the control voltage for a modular case comes from, and the OH-7 Overhub so the machine, the Outbox and the computer share one stable connection. It is a routing-first rig for producers who mix outside the box.

Elektron Outbox 8

Eight configurable 1/4 inch jacks on a single USB-C connection. With Tonverk it is set up from the browser Web App rather than the machine, and it is mainly worth having for CV duties and extra physical routing.

Setting it up

  1. Power Tonverk from the supplied PSU-5 and leave the 64 GB SD card in place for sample storage.
  2. Take the four balanced outputs into the desk or interface, using the bus and send tracks to decide what leaves on which pair.
  3. Connect the Outbox 8 to the Tonverk or the computer with a USB-C cable, and power it from its own USB-C input.
  4. Open the Outbox 8 Web App in a browser that supports Web MIDI, and assign the eight jacks to audio or CV.
  5. Put the Tonverk, the Outbox 8 and anything else on the OH-7 Overhub, and run one cable from the hub to the computer.

Questions

How well does the Outbox 8 work with Tonverk?

With limits. Tonverk is configured from the browser Web App rather than in-device, and audio streaming latency is higher than on the Overbridge machines. CV, gate and clock duties work as they do on any other host.

Which cable connects the two?

The Outbox 8 ships with a USB-C to USB-B cable and Tonverk's ports are USB-C, so a USB-C to USB-C cable is the one to have to hand.

Does Tonverk not already have separate outputs?

It has four balanced outputs plus a headphone jack, fed by four bus tracks and three sends. The Outbox 8 adds eight more assignable jacks and, more to the point, the control voltage that Tonverk cannot produce on its own.

What does the Web App need?

A browser with Web MIDI support. The configuration runs in the browser and writes the output assignments to the Outbox 8.

Can it sequence a modular rack?

Yes, through the Outbox 8. Each jack sends pitch as V/Oct or Hz/V, gate, trig, linear value or clock at plus or minus 5 V.

How long can Tonverk's patterns run?

Up to 256 steps per pattern and track, with individual pattern length per track, so tracks of different lengths can run against each other.

Is storage included?

Yes. A 64 GB SD card ships with Tonverk, along with the PSU-5 power supply, a USB-C cable and the artwork.

Is a case included?

No, and the Analog Cases Pulse Case does not fit: Tonverk is 286 mm wide against the 215 mm chassis the Pulse Case is cut for.
