Argon Audio AURORA + Forte A5 MK2 – Direct-Drive Vinyl, No Amplifier Required

The AURORA is the most rigid turntable in the Argon Audio range – 55 mm MDF plinth, brushless direct drive, Ortofon Concorde Music Blue already fitted. The Forte A5 MK2 is the active speaker from the same Danish designers with a phono input on the back. Plug one into the other and the system is complete: no amplifier, no phono stage, and HDMI ARC and Bluetooth aptX HD thrown in for the TV and the phone.

In This Setup

  • Argon Audio AURORA – direct-drive turntable with 8-pole brushless motor, 55 mm MDF plinth, rubber-damped aluminium platter, S-shaped tonearm, Ortofon Concorde Music Blue. Black or Walnut.
  • Argon Audio Forte A5 MK2 (pair) – active speakers with 5-inch bass driver, digital amplification, built-in phono input, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth 5.0 aptX HD. Black or White.

Why This Combination

  • Two boxes, one cable: the Forte A5 MK2 phono stage means the AURORA connects directly.
  • Cartridge worthy of the speakers: the Concorde Music Blue is a hi-fi cartridge, not a starter one.
  • Same designers, same taste: both products come from Argon Audio's Danish team, and they were meant to be seen together.

Set price includes both products.

One shelf. Whole system.

One shelf. Whole system.

A direct-drive Argon deck and a pair of active Argon speakers that already contain the amplifier.

This is the short route from a record to a room. The AURORA handles the analogue side with a direct-drive motor and an Ortofon Concorde Music Blue fitted at the factory, while the Forte A5 MK2 carries the amplification, the DAC and the inputs. Two boxes, one cable between them, and nothing else to buy.

  • No separate amplifier
  • Ortofon cartridge fitted
  • Phono stage at both ends
  • HDMI ARC for the TV
  • Danish design, matched finishes
The turntable

Argon Audio AURORA

A direct-drive deck built around mass: a 55 mm rigid MDF plinth, a rubber-damped aluminium platter and damped, height-adjustable feet. The static-balanced S-shaped arm arrives with an Ortofon Concorde Music Blue on a detachable headshell, so the deck plays as soon as it is level. A switchable MM phono stage sits inside, which is what lets it feed active speakers directly.

  • Direct-drive brushless motor, wow and flutter at or below 0.10%
  • 55 mm rigid MDF plinth with a 1.4 kg rubber-damped aluminium platter
  • Ortofon Concorde Music Blue fitted to a detachable headshell
  • Static-balanced aluminium S-arm, 9.17 in effective length, VTA adjustable at the base

The speakers

Argon Audio Forte A5 MK2

An active pair with four Class D amplifier channels, so every driver is driven on its own and no separate amplifier is involved. The input list covers the rest of the room: HDMI ARC for the television, optical, RCA line, Bluetooth and a dedicated MM phono input for a turntable. A sub output is there if the room later asks for more low end.

  • 4 x 80 W Class D with a fully digital signal path
  • 1 in soft-dome tweeter with a 5 in two-layer cone woofer
  • HDMI ARC, optical, RCA line, MM phono and Bluetooth 5.0
  • aptX, aptX HD, AAC and SBC, up to 24-bit/96 kHz

Setting it up

  1. Stand the AURORA on a level surface, fit the platter and slip mat, and set the speed knob to 33.
  2. Run RCA from the AURORA to the Forte A5 MK2: use the phono (MM) input with the turntable's phono stage switched off, or the RCA line input with it switched on. Connect the ground wire either way.
  3. Join the two speakers with the supplied 3 m speaker cable and give the active cabinet mains power.
  4. Add the television on HDMI ARC and pair a phone over Bluetooth if you want them.
  5. Select the input on the remote, lower the stylus and set the volume.

Questions

Do I need an amplifier or a separate phono stage?

No. The Forte A5 MK2 is active, so the amplifier is inside the cabinet, and both the speakers and the AURORA carry an MM phono stage. The set is complete as it ships.

Which input should the turntable use?

Either works, but only use one RIAA stage. Switch the AURORA's phono stage off and go into the speakers' phono (MM) input, or leave it on and use the RCA line input.

Can I connect my TV?

Yes. The Forte A5 MK2 has HDMI ARC, so one cable to the television carries the sound and lets the TV remote control the volume.

Does the AURORA play 78 rpm records?

Yes. It runs 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm from the speed knob. A 78 rpm shellac needs a suitable stylus for best results.

Is the cartridge already fitted?

Yes. An Ortofon Concorde Music Blue comes mounted on a detachable headshell, so there is no alignment work before the first record.

What room size suits this set?

The A5 MK2 is the larger Forte, with a 5 in woofer and response to 40 Hz, plus or minus 3 dB, which suits medium and larger living rooms.

Can I add a subwoofer later?

Yes. The speakers have a sub output, so a powered subwoofer with a line input connects straight to them.

How good is the Bluetooth?

Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX, aptX HD, AAC and SBC, handling up to 24-bit/96 kHz. An aptX HD phone gets the best of it.
