Marantz MCR 60n DAB

One chassis holds a front-loading CD mechanism, an MM phono stage, DAB+ and FM radio, HEOS streaming and four channels of amplification. HDMI eARC brings the television in on the same remote. It takes the footprint of a hardback book, so it works where a stack of separates never would.

Forus 5 is Argon's compact passive standmount: a 5.25-inch paper cone woofer, a 1-inch neodymium soft dome tweeter and a crossover at 2,700 Hz in an MDF cabinet. It is a 4 Ω design with 86 dB sensitivity and an integrated wall mount, sold as a pair in Black, White or Walnut.

Setting it up

  1. Set the Forus 5 pair on a shelf, on stands or on the integrated wall mount, with the tweeters near ear height.
  2. Run speaker cable to the Speaker A terminals on the MCR 60n, keeping polarity identical on both channels.
  3. Connect the television to HDMI eARC and a turntable with an MM cartridge to the phono input.
  4. Fit the aerial, join the receiver to the network, then finish setup in the HEOS app.
  5. Assign your regular sources to the four Smart Select presets.

Questions

Does the Marantz suit a 4 Ω speaker?

Yes. The MCR 60n's rated output of 2 × 65 W is specified into 4 Ω, which is the Forus 5's nominal impedance.

Argon recommends 40 – 100 W. Is 65 W enough?

It sits inside the recommended window. Argon specifies 40 – 100 W for the Forus 5 and the Marantz delivers 65 W per channel into 4 Ω.

Are the speakers sold as a pair?

Yes, Argon sells the Forus 5 per pair, with magnetic front covers and rubber feet in the box.

Can I wall-mount them?

Yes. The Forus 5 has an integrated wall mount, so no separate bracket kit is needed.

Do I need a separate phono stage for my turntable?

Not for a moving magnet cartridge — the MCR 60n has an MM phono input rated 2.5 mV/47 kΩ. A moving coil cartridge needs an external stage.
